Opis projekta:
Partnerji projekta »Ohranjanje stare sorte Strunjanska artičoka in njeno vključevanje v kmetijsko pridelavo Slovenske Istre«, smo pričeli z izvajanjem projektnih aktivnosti, katerih cilj je ohraniti avtohtono lokalno sorto artičoke kot pomemben del naravne in kulturne dediščine Strunjana in Slovenske Istre. Z ohranjanjem in promocijo lokalne sorte se spodbuja tudi razvoj lokalne samooskrbe in trajnostnega razvoja podeželja Slovenske Istre.
Projekt povezuje lokalne deležnike, društva, znanstveno-raziskovalno stroko ter upravljalce zavarovanega območja, da bi s skupnim pristopom prispevali k spodbujanju trajnostnega kmetijstva, ohranjanju biotske raznovrstnosti ter prenosu znanja med generacijami. S tem se spodbuja pridelava lokalnih sort, ki so bolje prilagojene podnebnim razmeram Slovenske Istre. Širši javnosti bo predstavljena sorta »Strunjanska artičoka« ter njena uporaba v lokalni kulinariki. Pomemben del aktivnosti vključuje tudi zbiranje lokalnega znanja, zgodb in načinov priprave artičoke, ki se prenašajo med generacijami lokalnega prebivalstva. Poseben poudarek bo namenjen medgeneracijskemu sodelovanju ter vključevanju različnih skupin lokalnega prebivalstva pri ohranjanju znanja o pridelavi in uporabi strunjanske artičoke.
V okviru projekta bodo vzpostavljeni novi nasadi artičok in vzgojene sadike za promocijske dogodke, izvedene pa bodo tudi genetske analize sorte, namenjene raziskovanju in potrjevanju njene edinstvenosti. Za dolgoročno ohranjanje sorte bo vzpostavljen matični nasad »Strunjanske artičoke«, ki bo vseboval genetsko čiste sadike za razmnoževanje in ohranjanje genetskega materiala sorte. Za potrebe promocije pa bosta organizirana dva večdnevna dogodka, »Dnevi artičok«, ki bodo potekali v maju 2026 in 2027. V sklopu medgeneracijskega sodelovanja ter vključevanja različnih skupin lokalnega prebivalstva pri ohranjanju znanja o pridelavi in uporabi strunjanske artičoke bodo organizirane delavnice za otroke. Pripravljena bodo tudi promocijska in izobraževalna gradiva za predstavitev sorte ter pomena njenega ohranjanja.
Projekt se izvaja v okviru LAS Zelena Istra in je sofinanciran iz Evropskega kmetijskega sklada za razvoj podeželja (EKSRP) v okviru SN SKP 2023–2027 (LEADER/CLLD).

Project description:
The partners in the project “Preservation of the Strunjan Artichoke Variety and Its Integration into Agricultural Production in Slovenian Istria” have begun implementing project activities aimed at preserving this indigenous local artichoke variety as an important part of the natural and cultural heritage of Strunjan and Slovenian Istria. The preservation and promotion of the local variety also encourage the development of local self-sufficiency and sustainable rural development in Slovenian Istria.
The project brings together local stakeholders, associations, scientific and research experts, and protected area managers to contribute, through a joint approach, to the promotion of sustainable agriculture, the preservation of biodiversity, and the transfer of knowledge across generations. This promotes the cultivation of local varieties that are better adapted to the climatic conditions of Slovenian Istria. The “Strunjan Artichoke” variety and its use in local cuisine will be presented to the general public. An important part of the activities also involves collecting local knowledge, stories, and methods of preparing artichokes, which are passed down through generations of the local population. Special emphasis will be placed on intergenerational cooperation and the involvement of various groups of the local population in preserving knowledge about the cultivation and use of the Strunjan artichoke.
As part of the project, new artichoke plantings will be established and seedlings will be grown for promotional events; genetic analyses of the variety will also be conducted to research and confirm its uniqueness. To ensure the long-term preservation of the variety, a “Strunjan Artichoke” mother plantation will be established, containing genetically pure seedlings for propagation and the preservation of the variety’s genetic material. For promotional purposes, two multi-day events, “Artichoke Days,” will be organized and will take place in May 2026 and 2027. As part of intergenerational cooperation and the involvement of various local community groups in preserving knowledge about the cultivation and use of the Strunjan artichoke, workshops for children will be organized. Promotional and educational materials will also be prepared to present the variety and the importance of its conservation.
The project is being implemented under the Zelena Istra Local Action Group (LAG) and is co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) under the 2023–2027 CAP National Program (LEADER/CLLD).
